About the Agency

Located on the Mississippi Gulf Coast in Biloxi, the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources (MDMR) manages all marine life, public trust wetlands, adjacent uplands and waterfront areas to provide optimal commercial, recreational, educational and economical uses of these resources that are consistent with environmental concerns and social changes. Our mission is to enhance, protect and conserve the state's marine interests.

About the Position

This is entry-level professional work involving the review, analysis, and evaluation of coastal wetlands permit applications submitted to the Office of Coastal Resource Management at the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources. The incumbent assists in making recommendations regarding permit approvals in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and agency policies.

Responsibilities include conducting inspections related to permit compliance and potential violations, as well as performing field visits to assess proposed permit activities. Travel is required to conduct site inspections within the three coastal counties of Mississippi.

**This is a time-limited (NS-14) position.**

What you'll need to be Successful

The ideal candidate should have a working knowledge of coastal and estuarine ecosystems of the Gulf of Mexico, coastal resource management techniques, the fauna and flora of the Gulf of Mexico, and ecological principles. Knowledge of wetlands delineation is desired. Candidates also need to possess excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to appropriately interact with a wide variety of people; possess skill in executing multiple projects simultaneously; have excellent negotiation, computer, and presentation skills; and ability to exercise considerable judgment and discretion.
