Job Description

Delaware's Division of Fish and Wildlife (DFW) is responsible for managing and conserving the quality and diversity of Delaware's wildlife and publicly owned wildlife habitat. The Delaware DFW waterfowl and migratory gamebird program manages the ducks, geese, swans, doves, and other migratory gamebirds of Delaware. This is accomplished by monitoring harvest, collecting biological data, collaborative efforts such as annual banding and telemetry research, and representing Delaware's wildlife interests by interacting in science-based forums with other neighboring states as part of the Atlantic Flyway Council Technical Section.

This seasonal research assistant position with Delaware's Species Conservation and Research Program will assist the State Waterfowl and Migratory Gamebird Biologist with waterfowl and migratory gamebird projects while also acting as the leader for the purposes of directing the fieldwork activities of the program-associated Bio Aide III and any volunteers. This position is year-round, and no housing will be provided. The job responsibilities include but are not limited to conducting surveys for gamebirds, capturing, banding, identifying, and marking live animals, entering data into Excel and Access databases, and coordinating with Atlantic Flyway Council Technical Section members and partnered staff on collaborative research projects. Assistance with other projects will also be required occasionally (e.g., deer, turkey, and non-game birds).

Operates and maintains vehicles, boats and sampling equipment.

Maintains accurate records and prepares reports.

May assist in processing biological samples.
