Engineering Technician V - $4,078 to $5,157 per month (SR-15, Step C - I)
Engineering Technician VI - $4,409 to $5,573 per month (SR-17, Step C - I)
Engineering Technician VII - $4,766 to $6,031 per month (SR-19, Step C - I)

Positions in this series require the application of some of the principles, methods and techniques in a specific or limited area of engineering, and a practical knowledge of the construction, application, properties, operation and limitations of engineering systems, processes, structures, machinery, devices or material, and as required, related manual, craft, instrument operation, mathematical, graphic or management skills and abilities.
Under general supervision, the Level V performs moderately difficult sub-professional, technical functions in support of higher level professional and/or sub-professional engineering activities; or supervises and works with a small group of engineering aids performing work at, the I to IV levels; and performs other duties as required.
Under general supervision, Level VI performs a variety of complex sub-professional technical duties in support of professional engineering functions; may supervise a small group of engineering aids and technicians of lower level; and performs other duties a required.
Level VII performs a variety of difficult and complex sub-professional technical duties in support of professional engineering functions; or supervises a small group of Engineering Technicians V and VI, or a larger group of engineering aids, technicians, draftsmen or other non-professional personnel of lower levels in the performance of routine, standard engineering-related functions; performs other duties as required. To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements:
LEGAL AUTHORIZATION TO WORK
The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
Education: Graduation from high school, or equivalent, with courses in mathematics.
Engineering-Support Experience: Four (4) years of work experience in one OR a combination of the engineering-oriented functions such as inspection, testing, designing, surveying, drafting, and construction, which required the knowledge of engineering terminology and the ability to use mathematical skills in the solution of engineering-support or engineering problems.
At least one (1) year of the required Engineering-Support Experience must have been comparable to the Engineering Aid IV level, OR two (2) years of experience comparable to the Engineering Aid III level in the State government.
For the Engineering Technician VII level, at least one (1) year of the required experience must have been comparable to the Engineering Technician VI level, or two (2) years must have been comparable to the Engineering Technician VI level in the State service.
The Engineering Aid IV performs a variety of standardized, non-professional, technical engineering functions, under general supervision; may serve as leadman for a small group of lower level engineering aids in the performance of routine tasks; and performs other duties as
required.
The Engineering Aid III performs a variety of routine technical, non-professional engineering tasks under general supervision; and performs other duties as required.
Supervisory Experience: For positions that supervise, applicants must possess supervisory aptitude. Supervisory aptitude is the demonstration of aptitude or potential for the performance of supervisory duties through successful completion of regular or special assignments which involve some supervisory responsibilities or aspects of supervision, e.g., by serving as a group or team leader; or in similar work in which opportunities for demonstrating supervisory capabilities exist; or by the completion of training courses in supervision accompanied by application of supervisory skills in work assignments; and/or by favorable appraisals by a supervisor in indicating the possession of supervisory potential.
