Job Description
This is housekeeping and janitorial work in cleaning, dusting and maintaining the general office units of an agency. Work is performed under the direction of a higher level employee who directs the subordinate as to what tasks need to be accomplished.
DUTIES (NOT ALL INCLUSIVE):
• Sweeps, scrubs and mop floors to remove all traces of dirt and grime.
• Cleans and straightens desks and chairs within the office unit to make them neat and tidy. Polishes desks as needed.
• Cleans bathrooms within the agency to make them sanitary and available for use, ensuring they are properly stocked with toilet paper, paper towel, soap and any other necessary toiletries.
• Cleans and shines glass panels within the agency. Picks up any litter that may be present.
• Empties all trash cans, removing bags as needed and replacing such. Cleans and washes the garbage cans.
• Maintains the stock supply room of all cleaning supplies. Notifies supervisor when stock needs to be replenished.
• Provides assistance with some minor clerical tasks such as Xerox when short staffed or if asked. May answer the telephone and take messages if no one is available.
• Performs other related work as required.
Completion of at least the tenth (10th) grade. OR One (1) year experience performing janitorial, housekeeping or custodial duties.
FACTOR 1- KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
Knowledge of cleaning supplies and materials used in housekeeping maintenance
Skill in physical manual dexterity to perform a variety of cleaning tasks.
Skill in cleaning methods
Ability to follow instructions
Ability to read warning labels on various products
FACTOR 2- SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
Work is supervised by a higher-level officer. Work is carried out independently and the supervisor periodically ensures that the duty tasks are completed.

There are no specific guidelines. The employee follows a set system of procedures.
FACTOR 4- COMPLEXITY:
The work is routine and recurring in nature. The employee carries out the same tasks on a daily basis.
FACTOR 5- SCOPE AND EFFECT:
The purpose of the work is to ensure that the office and work environment are clean and tidy.

Contacts are managers and co-workers on a daily basis.
FACTOR 7- PURPOSE OF CONTACTS:
Contacts are made to obtain or exchange information relative to the tasks to be performed.
FACTOR 8- PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Work requires considerable lifting and pushing of boxes, and mopping, sweeping, and standing.
FACTOR 9- WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed indoors in an air-conditioned office setting and outdoors around the entrances, walkways, and receptacles. However, the employee is exposed to various chemicals, odors, and toxic substances found in cleaning supplies.
