About the Agency

About the Position

Entry-level Auditors may be responsible for the following audit functions: initiating contact with taxpayers regarding audits of various tax types; applying knowledge of professional accounting principles as well as state tax laws, regulations, and policies in the performance of tax audits; preparing audit reports that result in additional tax assessments or refunds of various tax types based on data provided by taxpayers and audit procedures used; communicating audit results with taxpayers; and representing the Department of Revenue in appeals of tax audits. This position may also perform accounting functions, including the disbursement of agency funds in accordance with approved policies and procedures, diverting tax collections in compliance with state laws, rules, and regulations, interpreting fiscal, tax, and employment legislation while acting as a fiscal advisor to agency administrators, and administering employee compensation and benefit plans. Some in-state and out-of-state travel may be required.

What you'll need to be Successful

The ability to maintain a professional attitude and integrity, the ability to learn and apply tax law, policies, and procedures, proficiency in using Microsoft Excel workbook, the ability to communicate with taxpayers and tax professionals in verbal and written form, the ability to multitask and manage assigned tasks.

Preferred Qualifications

Typically requires a Bachelor's Degree and 0-2 years of experience. — Agency Preferred Qualifications:

A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in accounting or accounting/data processing

OR

Bachelor's Degree including a minimum of 24 hours of accounting as identified below:

18 hours from the following courses:
• Principles of Accounting I and II
• Intermediate Accounting I and II
• Federal Income Tax
• Auditing

The remaining 6 hours may be selected from the following:
• Cost Accounting
• Advanced Accounting
• Business Law
• Advanced Auditing
• Accounting Systems
• Managerial Accounting
• Advanced Federal Income Tax
• Auditing Problems
