About the Agency

This opportunity is a Accountant position within MS Department of Child Protection Services. The Mississippi Department of Child Protection Services (MDCPS) is committed to protecting and nurturing Mississippi's at-risk children and families. MDCPS offers a variety of positions statewide, including social work positions providing case management services and working with potential foster families, supervisor positions providing clinical and administrative support, and agency support positions such as policy development, human resources, information technology, program management, training, and budgeting/finance. About the Position

1. Review and approve all service requests entered in MACWIS prior to the bookkeeper issuing a purchase order in MACWIS for services. This responsibility includes ensuring all policy requirements are met and the appropriate support documentation is provided.
2. Monthly review and approve bank statements and reconciliations for all counties within their assigned regions. * State office staff handles this duty where there are vacancies*
3. Frequently monitor account ledgers and balances to ensure all children's funds are accounted for in the county bank accounts.
4. Review and approve cash and donation logs.
5. Review and enter all shopping carts for their assigned regions. * Not active"
6. Oversee the use of the State Procurement card for their assigned regions. *Not active*
7. Verify and complete the annual verification for Social Security recipients in custody.
8. Develop and implement appropriate corrective action plans to address audit findings.

What you'll need to be Successful

Successful employees will need to have a bachelor's degree in accounting or business-related fields. Have experience in payroll and reconciling. Must be able to prioritize work to meet deadlines, be an effective team leader/player, have good communication skills, as well as understand the importance of confidentiality in the payroll dept.

Preferred Qualifications

Typically requires a bachelor's degree and 4-5 years of experience and/or appropriate certification.
