About the Agency

The Mississippi Department of Rehabilitation Services (MDRS) is a state agency dedicated to helping Mississippians with disabilities to live and work independently. MDRS serves through four major programs: Vocational Rehabilitation (VR), Vocational Rehabilitation for the Blind (VRB), Office of Special Disability Programs (OSDP), and Disability Determination Services (DDS). Services also include support through Assistive Technology, the Office of Business Development and much more. It is the mission of MDRS to provide appropriate and comprehensive services in a timely and effective manner. About the Position

This position is available in the Mississippi Department of Rehabilitation Services VR Finance Division. This position will report directly to the VR Finance Director. Responsibilities will involve but not be limited to reviewing travel vouchers for accuracy and entering travel vouchers into the Statewide Payroll and Human Resource System (SPAHRS) and compiling and reporting travel payment information for the agency utilizing SPAHRS, MAGIC, and MERLIN. Person must be able to examine, reconcile, analyze, and interpret accounting data and records. Person will also be accountable for working under the guidance and framework of established processes, systems, practices, and regulations and in applying those standards in performing work assignments, researching information, and making recommendations. Public speaking is required for this position, as the individual will be providing travel-related training to agency personnel. Other responsibilities for the position include generating and providing reporting information for agency management, staff, and other parties as needed; working with agency employees to resolve any issues or disputes with travel vouchers and payments; and utilizing analytical abilities to appropriately identify, resolve, and limit the risk of errors.

What you'll need to be Successful

Employees would be expected to be organized and detail oriented; able to communicate effectively; able to remain positive and be a team player; have a basic understanding of finance/accounting principles as they relate to Travel; and have a penchant for being timely and meeting deadlines. Timeliness, communication, and public speaking abilities are critical for success in this position.

Preferred Qualifications

Typically requires a Bachelor's Degree and 2-4 years of experience and/or appropriate certification. Agency preferred qualifications:
